In 1742 Anders Celsius described a hundred-degree thermometer. In the same year Christian Goldbach wrote to Euler the observation later called Goldbach’s conjecture. Both are dated. Neither is a machine you can hold like Watt’s condenser. Strength: living, not hard in the 1769 sense.
